Cropping happens in your browser and the image is never uploaded. The output keeps the original pixels: nothing is resampled, so a crop is lossless apart from JPEG and WebP compression.

About this tool

Drag a selection over your picture, or enter exact pixel values, and save just that part. Lock the shape to a common ratio such as square or 16:9, rotate the image if it needs it, and download as PNG, JPEG or WebP. The image never leaves your device.

How to use it

  1. Drop an image onto the page.
  2. Choose a shape, then drag the selection or its handles. The arrow keys nudge it, and the fields below set exact values.
  3. Click Crop and download.

Choosing a shape

Ratio Typical use
1:1 Profile pictures, Instagram posts, product tiles
4:5 Instagram portrait posts
9:16 Stories, Reels, Shorts, phone wallpapers
16:9 Video thumbnails, presentations, hero images
1.91:1 Link-share cards (a 1200 × 630 image)
3:2 and 4:3 Standard camera and print shapes

With a ratio locked, dragging a corner keeps the shape, and the selection stays inside the picture. With Free, every edge moves on its own.

Precise control

Dragging is quick, but fields are exact. The four boxes under the picture set the left and top position and the width and height in pixels of the original image, and they stay in step with the selection as you drag.

The selection can also be moved from the keyboard: focus it and use the arrow keys for single pixels, or hold Shift for steps of ten. That makes it usable without a mouse and good for fine adjustment.

Crop, then resize

Cropping removes the outside of the picture and keeps the remaining pixels exactly as they were, so nothing is resampled and nothing gets softer. It does not change the size of what is left.

To produce a particular output size, crop to the right shape first, then resize: crop to 1.91:1 here, then set the width to 1200 in the image resizer.

Formats and transparency

PNG keeps every pixel and any transparency, and is the default. JPEG and WebP are smaller and use the quality slider, but JPEG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.

The cropped file is a new image: the original is untouched, and the saved file does not carry the original's camera metadata.

Frequently asked questions

Can I crop to a circle?

Images are rectangles, so the output is always one. For a round avatar, crop to 1:1 and round it on the page with the CSS border-radius property.

Why is the output smaller in pixels than I expected?

The crop is measured in pixels of the original image, not of what you see on screen, where a large picture is shown scaled down. The size of the selection is shown under the image.

Does cropping lower the quality?

No. The remaining pixels are copied exactly. Only JPEG and WebP output apply compression, controlled by the quality slider.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is opened and cropped in your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere.
