Instagram works best with 3–5 hashtags. You have 4.

CamelCase matters for accessibility: a screen reader announces #SocialMediaTips correctly but reads #socialmediatips as one unbroken string.

About this tool

Convert keywords — or a whole caption — into correctly formatted hashtags. Multi-word tags are camel-cased so screen readers announce them properly, and per-platform guidance keeps you from posting thirty tags where three belong.

How to use it

  1. Enter keywords, or paste a caption to extract terms from.
  2. Pick the platform you are posting to.
  3. Copy the formatted set.

How many hashtags per platform

Recommended counts differ far more than people assume, and using Instagram habits on LinkedIn looks like spam.

Platform Use Maximum
Instagram 3–5 30
X / Twitter 1–2 —
LinkedIn 3–5 —
TikTok 3–6 —
Facebook 1–2 —

Instagram's own guidance changed. For years the advice was to use all thirty. Instagram has since stated that a small number of highly relevant tags performs better, and that stuffing tags does not help distribution.

On X, hashtags reduce reach past one or two. They read as promotional and the algorithm treats them accordingly.

Facebook barely uses them at all. They are functional but almost nobody browses by tag.

Specific beats popular. A tag with 500 million posts buries you instantly. One with 10,000–500,000 posts is where a small account is actually discoverable.

Why camel case is an accessibility issue

Screen readers pronounce hashtags by attempting to parse the run of characters. Given #socialmediamarketing they produce an unintelligible string. Given #SocialMediaMarketing they read three clear words.

This is not a minor nicety. It is the difference between a caption that a blind user can follow and one that reads as noise, and capitalising costs nothing — hashtags are case-insensitive for matching, so #SocialMedia and #socialmedia reach exactly the same feed.

Both Instagram and X have recommended camel case for this reason.

It also prevents the classic misreadings that come from running words together. #therapist, #expertsexchange and #nowthatcherisdead are all real examples of tags that parsed very differently than intended.

Other formatting rules: no spaces or punctuation, cannot be only numbers, and emoji technically work but break search for most people. This tool camel-cases multi-word tags by default and strips anything invalid.

Frequently asked questions

How many hashtags should I use?
It varies sharply by platform: three to five on Instagram, one or two on X, three to five on LinkedIn, and three to six on TikTok. More is not better — relevance beats volume everywhere.
Why camel case?
Because screen readers announce #SocialMediaTips correctly but read #socialmediatips as one run-on string. Capitalising each word is an accessibility improvement that costs nothing.
Is my caption sent anywhere?
No. Keywords are formatted locally in your browser, so unpublished campaign copy is never transmitted.
