About this tool
Turn pages of a PDF into images you can post, paste into a slide or send where a PDF is not accepted. Pick the pages and the resolution; each page is drawn in your browser and nothing leaves your device.
How to use it
- Drop your PDF onto the page.
- Choose JPG or PNG, a resolution, and the pages to convert; leave pages blank for all of them.
- Click Convert, then save pages one at a time or all together as a zip.
Choosing a resolution
A PDF page has a physical size, so the resolution decides how many pixels it is drawn with.
| Setting | Scale | A4 page comes out at | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 72 dpi | about 595 × 842 px | Thumbnails, quick previews |
| High | 144 dpi | about 1,190 × 1,684 px | Screens, slides, posting online |
| 216 dpi | about 1,785 × 2,526 px | Office printing, detailed diagrams |
Cost grows with the square of the scale: Print is nine times the pixels of Standard, in time and in memory. Start at High, and go up only if text looks soft when you zoom in.
JPG or PNG
JPG is much smaller and is the right choice for photographs and scanned pages.
PNG is lossless, so text and line art stay crisp with no halo around the letters. It is the better choice for slides, diagrams and screenshots of documents, and the files are several times larger.
Neither format has a place for a PDF's transparent background, so pages are drawn on white.
What you get, and what you lose
Pages are drawn by Mozilla's PDF.js, the same engine as Firefox's built-in viewer. The output is a flat picture of the page: text in it can no longer be selected, searched or copied.
For a long document, convert only the pages you need. Each page is drawn in turn, and you can enter a range such as 1-3, 7. To go the other way, from pictures back to a document, use JPG to PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a page look blurry?
It was drawn at too low a resolution for how you are viewing it. Convert again at High or Print. A scanned PDF can only be as sharp as the scan itself.
Can I extract the text instead?
Not with this tool, which produces images only. Open the PDF in a viewer and copy the text, or use OCR for scanned pages.
Does it work on password-protected PDFs?
No. Remove the password in a PDF viewer first, if you are permitted to.
Are my pages uploaded?
No. Rendering happens in your browser, and the images are created and zipped locally.
