About this tool

Pull the pages you need out of a PDF, or cut a long document into equal parts. Type a range such as 1-3, 5, 8- to extract, or split every N pages into a zip of separate files. It all happens in your browser, so the document stays on your device.

How to use it

  1. Drop your PDF onto the page.
  2. Choose Extract pages and type the ranges, or Split into parts and set how many pages go in each.
  3. Download the new PDF, or the zip of parts.

Page range syntax

Separate ranges with commas. Page numbers are the document's own, counted from 1, not any number printed on the page.

You type You get
3 Page 3 only
2-5 Pages 2, 3, 4 and 5
8- Page 8 to the last page
-4 The first four pages
1-3, 7, 10- Pages 1 to 3, then 7, then 10 to the end
5, 1 Page 5 followed by page 1

Pages come out in the order you wrote them, so a range can also be used to reorder, and a page named twice appears twice. A range that runs outside the document, or backwards such as 5-2, is reported rather than guessed at.

Extract, or split into parts?

Extract produces a single PDF made of exactly the pages you listed. Use it to send chapter three, the signature page or a single invoice from a bundle.

Split into parts cuts the whole document into consecutive pieces of N pages and gives you a zip. With one page per part you get one file per page, named report-part-1.pdf, report-part-2.pdf and so on (zero-padded, as part-01, once there are ten or more so they sort correctly). The last part is shorter if the page count does not divide evenly. Use it to hand each page of a batch scan to a different person.

What splitting does not do

Pages are copied as they are, with no re-rendering, so text stays selectable and images keep their quality.

Splitting does not make the total smaller. Each part carries the fonts and images its own pages use, so a document where every page shares a large logo or embedded font can produce parts that add up to more than the original. If the aim is a smaller file, split first, then keep only the part you need.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split by bookmarks or by file size?

No. This tool works from page ranges and fixed page counts. To get under an email limit, split by count, check the sizes and adjust the count.

Does splitting lower the quality?

No. Pages are copied across without being re-rendered or recompressed, so text, vector graphics and images are identical to the original.

Are the page numbers printed on the pages changed?

No. The new file's pages are numbered from 1 internally, but any page number printed in the content stays as it was.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and split by your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
